Personality:
If you were to ask any of Bandou's clan mates to use one word to describe him, most likely all of them would pick 'petty.' To which Bandou would complain with irritation, proving their point entirely. Bandou's pettiness started at a very young age. Throughout the majority of his school years, he was constantly coming up behind his close friend, Shouhei Akagi. And though Shouhei never once made anything between them a competition, Bandou always had a complaint about his second place standing. In his own mind, Bandou believes he is already an amazingly awesome person, so when someone outdoes him at something, he views it as their fault rather than taking it as a blow to his self confidence. In a way, that's good for him. Always coming up behind others could very easily lower someone's self image to the point of depression, but Bandou's self confidence borders so much on egotistical that he's either petty and angry at being outdone or overly boastful about something he's proud of doing.
As a prime example of this, when his long time friend Shouhei just happened to walk into his clan's headquarters and request to join, Bandou's immediate reaction was that finally he'd be above Shouhei. After all, having joined HOMRA long before Shouhei meant that he was the senpai in this relationship and had to be treated by the newbie as such. But unfortunately for Bandou, Shouhei's charismatic attitude made him fit into the clan almost immediately, and just as quickly, Bandou felt like he'd been shoved to second place again. And unfortunately for the rest of HOMRA, Bandou's pettiness is usually accompanied by loud yelling, even louder complaining, and sometimes even a kicked table or two. And despite getting numerous beat downs from Yata and even more intimidating grins from Izumo, he never seems to get it though his head that these habits of his are pretty irritating to the others.
But while this instance of Bandou's pettiness would seem at least marginally understandable, he also has the horrible tendency to latch onto small, extremely insignificant instances from the past and hold onto them as grudges against people. He's been shown complaining about Shouhei always getting picked first at sports, coming up only 2 seconds ahead of him during swimming laps, and even getting a kiss from his childhood crush (keep in mind that this kiss happened when they were in kindergarten.) He has also gotten pretty cranky over the fact that he has issues finding a girlfriend. Both Kamamoto and Yata have earned equal amounts of glares and gritted teeth when girls were fawning over them during their summers at the bar and the beach, and turning him down as a result.
However, to say that Bandou is simply 'petty' is far beyond the truth. Even though he holds massive grudges against anyone better than him, when it comes to the bottom line, anyone who he holds close will get his utmost loyalty. Bandou is a proud and dedicated member of his clan, and while he can be overly stubborn about trivial things, he doesn't let his petty complaints get in the way when one of his comrades needs help. For example, we eventually find out that the main reason Shouhei joined HOMRA was so he could use the red aura he gained to rescue his friend from a group of drug dealers she'd gotten tied up with. When Bandou found out about this reckless decision Shouhei had made, he immediately pushed aside the petty feelings he'd had towards his friend and ran to find and help him. Sure he thought Shouhei was an idiot for acting without thinking, but that didn't mean he would let any harm come to him, if he could help it. After that whole ordeal was concluded, Shouhei made the observation that, despite his petty attitude, Bandou could be really selfless when it came to something serious. He could have used the act of saving him as leverage to finally come out on top, but instead Bandou looks at it as something that comrades should do for one another, and never asks for payment in return. To Bandou, his comrades are the most important part of being in the Red Clan. It's not about the power he gained over fire, but the bonds he's formed with his clan mates.
Believe it or not, when something isn't directly involving him, Bandou can actually be a rather calm, quiet and laid back guy. Likewise, he also has no issue with letting go and having a good time with his clan mates. He's got a rather goofy side to his personality that shows during these instances. Whether it's getting a good laugh out of Eric calling Yata a chihuahua or putting on a silly Groucho Marx mask while setting up Anna's birthday party. He's even admitted to being kind of nerdy during his school years (and let's be honest, that definitely stuck with him.) He's pretty much the comic relief of HOMRA. Like, if someone's gonna trip and fall face first into a pie, it'll be him. And actually, that did happen in one of Memory of Red's side stories. He's the one who gets overly drunk at parties before anyone else and has no issue making an idiot of himself as a result. Which, considering he's been said to have the tolerance of one sake cup, that's a fairly common occurrence. He also has the reputation of never being able to keep a job - which he blames mainly on the job in question as not being a good fit for him.
Overall, Bandou is the loud, obnoxious idiot of the group. And even though his petty complaining can be irritating, and his boasting and goofy behaviour earns him numerous eye rolls, he's a devoted member of his clan. In the end, he's most concerned with the camaraderie and family feeling that comes along with being a member of HOMRA, and that earns him the respect of his clan mates more than anything else.

The red flames can be emitted straight from his body or he can attach them to an object he is holding. In season two of the anime, Bandou is seen doing just this with a pair of tonfa blades. As he spins them, they suddenly become engulfed in flames which go after whomever he's attacking.
Along with the aura, HOMRA members get a bit of a boost when it comes to agility, strength, and speed. Bandou also claims to no longer get stomach aches after receiving his HOMRA insignia from Mikoto (supposedly because his appeared right above his belly button.)
Strengths: Loyal, self confident, selfless, unintentionally humerous, outgoing

College Au Ideas!
College AU
Caitling gave me the idea or at least inspired it. Essentially I just think it'd be cool to do a college AU where all the HOMRA guys end up meeting at a University and becoming friends there. So, here are my thoughts and ideas about it that I came up with at work and just kept smiling about:
I'd be basing this off of a western (or at least U.S. style of college schooling - mainly because that's what I'm most familiar with and that's what the rest of my ideas would work in. And since it's an AU, it can be a thing without being too random. But who knows, maybe they all just decided to study abroad. And for convenience sake, this would have to be some extremely diverse university to offer all the different majors they'd go after. And I think that it'd also be cute to call them all by their first names.
Izumo - would be a professor, probably of business or something similar. He'd also do bar tending lessons in his spare time.
Tatara - also a professor, but teaches an array of classes. Mainly things like filmography, photography, music, poetry, that kind of stuff.
Mikoto - could be a professor but I don't really know what the hell he'd teach, so instead I see him as getting into the school on a full scholarship for some sort of athletic thing. But rather than follow that, he ends up being one of those floater kinds of students who doesn't really focus on any major, just kind of randomly takes classes. He's a lot older than most cause he's been there a few years extra just kind of for the hell of it. Kind of like Pauly Shore in The Son-in-Law. Pays smart kids to do his papers for him, etc.
Is the oldest member of his fraternity left (and of course I wanna name it after HOMRA, so I was thinking HMR but the letter for R in the Greek alphabet is shaped like a P so...idk) So he's kind of like the one in charge of it now. Initially all the guys get paired up as usual for roommates, but eventually they all meet one another through classes/other friends and all join the HMR frat and live in the same building (sometime in second year.) Also, need some kind of hazing ritual that involves fire. Makes me think of how in produce, we would initiate new workers by making them eat a whole habanero pepper.
Anna - Mikoto's little sister who visits him frequently.
Yata - idk what major he'd go after. He was initially roommates with Fushimi, but he left at the end of the first year to go to a different school. Becomes roommates with Kamamoto the next year. He's the one to suggest they all join HMR.
Kamamoto - Yata's roommate at the beginning of second year. Not sure on major but I think it'd be hilarious if he was studying to become a dietitian.
Shouhei - He and Bandou still went to elementary school together, so they request to be roommates once they find out they picked the same school. Not sure what major he'd be either but probably something where he could help people, like a counselor or something similar.
Bandou - Roommates with Shouhei. His parents are paying fully for his schooling, but they are insistent that he go into the profession of their choosing or they will cut him off. Something business, medical or judicial related I think. Obviously Bandou's not interested in that, nor is he really good at it, but he doesn't want to leave college. Shouhei helps him out with his classes so he doesn't get poor marks. He really wants to do something like video game design.
Chitose - Roommates with Dewa. Not sure on major, but he'd be in a few of Izumo's classes and start to see him as a mentor.
Dewa - Roommates with Chitose. Majoring in computer sciences. Bandou's super jealous that he gets to go into that.
Eric - Roommates with Fuji, prob coming in their second year since he's younger. Not sure on major but he'd be the youngest so he's probably still deciding that himself.
Fuji - Eric is his roommate second year. Getting his degree in veterinary studies.
Caitling gave me the idea or at least inspired it. Essentially I just think it'd be cool to do a college AU where all the HOMRA guys end up meeting at a University and becoming friends there. So, here are my thoughts and ideas about it that I came up with at work and just kept smiling about:
I'd be basing this off of a western (or at least U.S. style of college schooling - mainly because that's what I'm most familiar with and that's what the rest of my ideas would work in. And since it's an AU, it can be a thing without being too random. But who knows, maybe they all just decided to study abroad. And for convenience sake, this would have to be some extremely diverse university to offer all the different majors they'd go after. And I think that it'd also be cute to call them all by their first names.
Izumo - would be a professor, probably of business or something similar. He'd also do bar tending lessons in his spare time.
Tatara - also a professor, but teaches an array of classes. Mainly things like filmography, photography, music, poetry, that kind of stuff.
Mikoto - could be a professor but I don't really know what the hell he'd teach, so instead I see him as getting into the school on a full scholarship for some sort of athletic thing. But rather than follow that, he ends up being one of those floater kinds of students who doesn't really focus on any major, just kind of randomly takes classes. He's a lot older than most cause he's been there a few years extra just kind of for the hell of it. Kind of like Pauly Shore in The Son-in-Law. Pays smart kids to do his papers for him, etc.
Is the oldest member of his fraternity left (and of course I wanna name it after HOMRA, so I was thinking HMR but the letter for R in the Greek alphabet is shaped like a P so...idk) So he's kind of like the one in charge of it now. Initially all the guys get paired up as usual for roommates, but eventually they all meet one another through classes/other friends and all join the HMR frat and live in the same building (sometime in second year.) Also, need some kind of hazing ritual that involves fire. Makes me think of how in produce, we would initiate new workers by making them eat a whole habanero pepper.

Stupid drabble/psl ideas
Just some dumb ideas myself and the others have come up with for mini stories or possible threads...
- After green king and JUNGLE are defeated, Bandou (somehow, we don't know why, seriously slates, what were you thinking) becomes the new Green King. Headcanons!
Basic history - a combo of Kira, Samm, Caitling and my own headcanons.
This needs to be edited a bit but yeah
- Youngest of three. Has two older brothers named Ichirou and Niouta.
- Both of his brothers are very smart and successful.
- Father is extrememly strict and expectant of all three of them, unfortunately, Bandou doesn't excel naturally like his brothers do.
- Father began to disapprove of Bandou's interests and hobbies (nerdy stuff) and demanded he focus on schooling and the things he deemed appropriate.
- The constant disapproval from his father and comparisons between him and his brothers led to Bandou becoming very petty over the slightest failure. made him bitter towards anyone who outshone him.
- His mother slowly began to be hostile towards him, mainly because of his constant letting down of his father and the outward anger that caused him to project towards the family.
- It got to the point where even bringing home tests and reports with high marks on them wasn't good enough.
- Was often kicked out of dinner due to him arguing with his father over comments made comparing him to his brothers or just not doing well. Would be sent to his room and told not to show his face again for the night.
- On occasion, when his parents were being exceptionally uncaring, he'd sneak out of his bedroom window and go over to Shouhei's. He'd throw rocks up at Shouhei's window then climb the tree next to his house to get in his room. Shouhei would always offer to just ask his mom if Bandou could stay the night, but he didn't want him to cause then Sho's mom would call up his parents to make sure it was okay and he didn't want them to know.
- Would just curl up on Shouhei's bed without asking first.
- Shouhei knows all about Bandou's parents and everything that went on, though he was sometimes hesitant to talk about it, instead just letting it fester inside him.
- Shouhei moved away before either of them graduated middle school, leaving Bandou to deal with his home life without an outlet or place to run away to.
- While away at high school, Bandou gave up on trying to live up to his parents' expectations and let his grades slip lower than they ever had before. Failing multiple classes and often not even showing up at all.
- Obviously, this didn't sit well with his parents when they found out. they demanded he return home, outraged that they'd spent money on sending him to this school just to have him not appreciate it
- rather than returning home, he fled to the city.
- He lived on the streets for a good while. had trouble getting a job due to his age and lack of completed schooling.
- He never heard from his parents after that, though his middle brother Niouta eventually called him, worried. Bandou was hostile towards him and refused to come home since it was obvious is parents didn't care enough to look for him. They speak on occasion but not often.
- Walked into HOMRAbar one day, a bit unsure about possibly joining. Instead he begged Izumo for a job. Izumo refused him outright, saying he didn't even need help, why was this guy asking? Bandou pleaded and with Tatara convincing him, Izumo eventually relented and let Bandou work in the back cleaning glasses.
- Afraid of losing this job and just his overall anger issues caused him to make many mistakes and damage property. Izumo eventually got fed up and angrily fired Bandou.
- Tatara caught Bandou before he left for the final time and suggested he join, much to Izumo's dismay. He was introduced to Mikoto and easily became a member.
- Having briefly met some of the guys while he was employed there, they teased him but in the end were overall friendly and accepted him. He finally felt like he'd achieved something and took great pride in being a member of HOMRA.
- Since joining, Izumo has banned him from ever touching anything in the kitchen or going behind the bar.
- Bandou had always been petty towards Shouhei for him constantly being better than him, but while they were growing up it was more playful than hostile. His hostility towards Sho when he showed up at HOMRAbar was a mixture of anger towards him for moving away and leaving him, and fear that Sho would be the new favorite due to his positive and social nature and the guys would push him aside. He had finally found a place he could be proud of himself the way he was and was afraid of that being taken from him. When he realized things could still be good with Sho there, he felt more guilty for acting that way towards his old friend, considering he'd always been there for him, and hadn't hesitated to continue that friendship now that they were reunited.
- Has only ever dated one girl in high school. She mainly went out with him as a joke. It only lasted around two months and the only reason Bandou got a kiss out of her was so he would stop nagging her.
-Though this contradicts my other headcanon that Bandou must have been wearing his hat/hoodie/glasses combo since they were in school together, since Shouhei easily recognized him all covered up... I also have this silly idea that the reason he dresses like that was that after he left home, his parents actually informed authorities that their son had stolen property from them (a good sum of money) so the outfit was a disguise of sorts. Also to hide from truant officers since he was supposed to be at school. He found out about this from Niouta when he finally called him after he'd left.
- I also think it would be hilarious if Bandou had an online persona and maybe made youtube videos or something similar. And he'd be all cocky and proud over having people follow him online.
